Course Objectives: Introduction to the principles, possibilities and procedures for the formation and exploitation of flotation tailing site.

Learning Outcomes: Training for analysis, design and exploitation of flotation tailing site and insight into the knowledge for the analysis, design and exploitation of flotation tailing disposal systems and the impact assessment on the environment


Theory teaching
Flotation tailing site. Purpose and tasks. Basic characteristics of tailings. Basic elements of the flotation disposal system. Transport. Size of tailing site. Solving natural watercourses. Disposal system. Evacuation of free water. Protection. Observation. Site selection. Technical-technological, urban, economic, ecological and sociological conditions. Methods of upgrading. Upstream, downstream and the central line methods. Water in the site. Origin. Water inside the contours of the tailing`s site. Sedimentary pond. Leaking water from the site. Filtration. Drainage. Collectors. Water balance. Oxidation of the tailings. Return water. Pumping pumping stations and reservoirs. Stability of the tailing`s site. Methods of calculation and physical significance of the obtained results. Design of tailings. Legislation in the country and the world. Capacity. Calculations. Equipment. Maintenance. Disasters in exploitation and possible damage. Statistical overview. Showing some of the damage in the world and in our environment. Overflow. Instability of the slope of the embankment. Earthquakes. Problems in the foundation of the embankment. Problems on overflow objects. Problems in the embankment structure. Erosion. The impact of the mine.

Practical teaching
Characteristics of tailing. Determination of selected parameters. Visisting of flotation site. Bor. Majdanpek. Rudnik. Analysis. Flotation tailing site design - solving a practical problem. Site selection. Determination of size. Upgrading dynamics. Defining the catchment area. Solving problems of acceptance, retention and evacuation of waters. Defining the size of the sedimentary pond. Defining the height relationship between the embankment crown and the deposit of the deposited material.
